         Koufonissi / Koufonissi island in Makrigialos, Makrygialos, Makiyalos, East Crete This magical uninhabited island is just 18km from the resort of Makrigialos, Makrygialos, Makriyalos, on the south east coast of Crete. This island can be reached by boat from Makrigialos Harbour daily throughout the summer from about the middle of May, weather permitting. The boat sails at 10am approx and the trip is about 1hour, your time on the island will be a magical experience, there are no amenities so it is recommended that you take with you a picnic and plenty to drink, it is also essential to have protection from the brilliant sunshine a hat and maybe an umbrella are important there being little shade near the beaches sun tan oil etc, will be necessary. The trip really is the ultimate in relaxation, this is sun sea and sand at it’s very very best and is a day to be remembered. The island is very popular with locals who visit regularly throughout the summer, it is also a good site for fishing. Being just 6km long with excellent beaches, the island makes a wonderful day out, however it must be remembered that the island is a major archeological site with both Minoan and Roman remains and should be treated with respect. For a unique holiday experience this trip is a must.
